RBI shifts Eid-e-Milad holiday to September 18 following Maharashtra govt move

 The Reserve Bank of India said it has shifted the Eid-e-Milad holiday to Wednesday, September 18 instead of Monday, September 16 following a similar announcement by the Maharashtra government.

"Accordingly, the Public Holiday declared on September 16, 2024 (Monday) is cancelled and the offices of the Reserve Bank of India situated in the districts of Mumbai City and Mumbai Suburban shall remain closed on September 18, 2024 (Wednesday)," according to an RBI announcement made on September 14.

The Maharashtra government has rescheduled the Eid-e-Milad holiday in Mumbai district from September 16 to September 18. This decision was made following a request from the local Muslim community to avoid a clash with Anant Chaturdashi, the final day of Ganesh Chaturthi, which falls on September 17.

An official statement from the state administration acknowledged the adjustment, saying that the local Muslim community had voluntarily opted to move their Eid-e-Milad processions to September 18 to ensure that both festivals could be observed without logistical concerns. Ganpati Visarjan, the immersion of Ganesh idols, often draws enormous crowds around Mumbai, making it one of the city's most important festivals.
