OFFICIAL GRID: Who begins where in Azerbaijan after Hamilton, Ocon, Gasly, and Zhou's demotion
A dynamic Azerbaijan Grand Prix grid promises an exciting race around Baku's streets, with Ferrari's Charles Leclerc starting from pole position for the fourth year in a row. For once, Baku specialist Perez outperformed Red Bull teammate Max Verstappen, who will start sixth, with the world champion trapped between the George Russell drives a Mercedes, while Fernando Alonso drives an Aston Martin. Franco Colapinto outqualified teammate Alex Albon at Williams, putting them eighth and ninth, with Haas' Ollie Bearman completing the top 10 in place of the banned Kevin Magnussen.
Pierre Gasly had been ecstatic to finish 13th for Alpine, only to be disqualified due to a fuel-flow anomaly in his car. He is now demoted to the back row, along with Kick Sauber's Zhou Guanyu, who received a grid penalty earlier this weekend for using excess power unit elements. Finally, Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton and Alpine's Esteban Ocon must start from the pit lane due to late setup and power unit element modifications. They had initially qualified seventh and twentieth, respectively.
